CLOSETS
  1. Items used most frequently should be on shelves at eye level.
  2. Break alike items down into baskets.
  3. Hang all like clothes together, i.e., skirts in one area, blouses in another.
  4. Put shoes in boxes that are labeled or a rack where they can be easily viewed.
  5. If you haven’t worn it in a year, either move to a less used closet, or give away.
OFFICES/DESKS
  1. Have a basic “desk” kit available with all the items you use on a regular basis.
  2. Have a basket for items to review, items to file, items to shred.
  3. Mugs, jelly jars, small flowerpots are great for pens, pencils, and other supplies.
  4. Keep all warranty information in a binder with sections for tv, stereo, appliances, etc.
  5. Purchase a shredder to assure nothing with your name goes in recycling or trash.
WORKSHOP/GARAGE
  1. Store screws, nails, and bolts in see through jars. If you have a shelf, screw the tops to it so that the jar hangs below.
  2. Mount pegboard on the wall, draw outlines of the tools to show each tool’s home.
  3. Keep a bag with essentials to tote tools from room to room.
  4. Hang large items from the ceiling of the garage.
  5. Keep a fire extinguisher in a convenient area.
KITCHEN
  1. Wire baskets and glass bowls are great to keep fruit in view for on-the-go snacks.
  2. Double duty - while heating dinner in the microwave, take time to wipe down counters or cupboards - it’s easier to clean before food hardens.
  3. Arrange kitchen so items are easily accessible while cooking.
  4. Keep paper and pencil by the phone.
  5. Add vertical dividers to lower cupboard to store baking sheets and pizza pans.
LAUNDRY
  1. Having separate bins for different colored clothes saves time on wash day.
  2. A shelf above the washer and dryer is a great place for the detergent with spigots.
  3. Mount paper towels by the washer to wipe up spills.
  4. Hang a pocket shoe organizer to hold stain stick, spray starch, clothespins, etc.
  5. Have a basket for lost buttons or socks without mates. Go through it on a regular basis to find mates.
